Keynote Speaker - Ang Richard

(she/her/hers) is an Assistant Director of Career Education at Boston University’s Center for Career Development. As a Gen Z, first-gen student and professional, Ang is passionate about empowering early career professionals to thrive in the world of work. She is a LinkedIn Top Voice, TEDx Speaker, workshop facilitator, and speaker, and she strives to foster a sense of belonging wherever she goes. Ang will be pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education at Boston College this fall. Her research interests include sense of belonging among college students, career development and mobility, and identity-centered programming on university campuses.

Katia Yagnik - The impact of the SCOTUS decision in June 2023 barring most race conscious admissions practices is still being analyzed in enrollment and legal counsel offices across the country. This presentation will summarize the legal framework that led us to this point, the main takeaways from the decision last summer, and some of the early changes we are seeing in college enrollment practices.

Katia is the Admissions Assistant Director at University of Rochester. Prior to this position she worked in Admissions and Financial Aid at Finger Lakes Community College and as Education Coordinator for the non-profit Rural & Migrant Ministry. Katia serves on the Access and Outreach team at the University of Rochester. While completing her Master’s degree in Sociology of Education at Teacher’s College, Columbia University, Katia worked as a course assistant for the School Law Institute.

Glenn Schieck

A partner in the Harter Secrest & Emery Rochester office and serves as chair of the firm’s Immigration practice. He works with a wide variety of clients, including multinational corporations, small businesses, universities, professional sports teams, and health care institutions in seeking immigrant and nonimmigrant status for employees in diverse fields and specialties.

Glenn has experience in all aspects of employment-based immigration law, as well as experience with complex litigation and appeals before federal and administrative courts, including the Board of Alien Labor Certification Appeals of the Department of Labor (BALCA) and the Administrative Appeals Office of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (AAO).

He is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® and by Chambers USA in the field of Immigration for New York State. Glenn earned a J.D., magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School and a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.

Di is a captivating author, dynamic neurodiversity expert speaker, and passionate justice advocate. With her latest book, "Indomitable: A Foster Care Story," she shares a gripping memoir of her journey through the Massachusetts Foster Care System.

Having grown up on the outside as a foster child with neurodiversity, Di possesses a unique perspective on the depth of human experience, which enriches her public speaking engagements and shapes her life's work. Bill Herbert - This session will provide conference attendees with information concerning undergraduate student employee unionization. It will include historical and legal background to the trend, data concerning the post-pandemic unionization efforts, and an analysis of negotiated contract provisions.

A Distinguished Lecturer and Executive Director of the National Center for the Study of Collective Bargaining in Higher Education and the Professions at Hunter College. His areas of scholarship include labor law, history, and policy. His most recent book chapter appeared in Contingent Faculty and the Remaking of Higher Education: A Labor History, which was published earlier this year by University of Illinois Press.

Samantha Veeder - This session will address the most pressing policy issues related to Federal Title IV financial aid. The FAFSA Simplification process, and the disastrous rollout, will be discussed along with other important regulatory updates. Discussion will reflect on lessons learned as well as how the future of our college enrollment will be impacted.

The Associate Vice Provost of Enrollment and University Director of Financial Aid at University of Rochester, a private institution and top-tier research university with total enrollment over 6,000 undergraduates and nearly 4,700 graduate students and total administered financial aid of over $350 million. Sam has over 30 years of experience in the financial aid profession, previously serving as director of financial aid at Syracuse University, Nazareth College, Hobart & William Smith Colleges and Keuka College and as a senior consultant at Scannell & Kurz, Inc. Over the years, she has been active in state, regional, and national professional organizations. She has served as President of EASFAA, NASFAA Regional Representative and Representative-at-Large, Treasurer of both NYSFAAA and EASFAA, Past-Chair of the College Board CSS/Financial Aid Assembly Council, and member of the 2022 U.S. Department of Education Negotiated Rulemaking Committee on Institutional and Programmatic Eligibility. Sam is the recipient of the NYSFAAA Citation of Appreciation, NYSFAAA Sister Bernadine Hayes and Rusty Hopkins Service Award, the NYSFAAA Region III Service Award, the College Board Bernard P. Ireland Recognition Award, the NASFAA Leadership Award, and the EASFAA Leadership Award. Sam is a frequent presenter at financial aid nights, workshops and conferences particularly on technology, financial aid, and enrollment management topics. Sam is a graduate of Ithaca College with a B.S. in Health Services Administration and Nazareth College with a M.S. in Management.

Donald McArdle

Donald is a Management and Program Analyst (MPA) in the Engagement branch of the Verification Division within the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an agency within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). His five years combined experience as an MPA and former Customer Support Analyst has provided Donald with a comprehensive Immigration background, specializing in employment eligibility and status verification.
